Enough turncoat Republicans joined their Democratic colleagues the other day in voting to block President Trump’s border emergency declaration. While President Trump probably had two choice words for those who voted against him, he replied simply with one – tweeting “VETO” after the vote. This will be the first veto of his presidency.
The White House said Trump likely would issue the veto on March 15.
According to Fox News, the measure passed 59-41 as a dozen Republicans joined Democrats in voting for the resolution, despite White House efforts to keep the GOP united on the issue of border security. Those GOP members who backed the resolution cited concerns about the expansion of presidential powers.
Not surprisingly one of those Republican’s was Mitt Romney. “I’m going to be voting in favor of the resolution of disapproval,” Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, told reporters ahead of the vote. “This is a constitutional question, it’s a question of the balance of power that is core to our constitution.”
“This is not about the president or border security, in fact, I support border security, I support a barrier,” he said.
Other Republicans Who Parted With Trump on Border Security
In the run-up to the vote, the Trump administration was urging the GOP not to vote against the president. Speaking on “Fox and Friends” Vice President Mike Pence said, “A vote against the president’s national emergency declaration is a vote to deny the humanitarian and security crisis that’s happening at our southern border. So we’re urging every member of the Senate set politics aside to recognize that we have a crisis.”
However, given the results of the vote, clearly there were those who did not get the message. You could add these names to the growing list of RINOs who do not support the president, and remember them when it comes time for primary challenges. The other Republicans who voted to oppose the declaration were Sens. Mike Lee, R-Utah; Rob Portman, R-Ohio; Susan Collins, R-Maine; Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; Marco Rubio, R-Fla.; Rand Paul, R-Ky.; Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn.; Roger Wicker, R-Miss.; Roy Blunt, R-Mo.; Jerry Moran, R-Kan.; and Pat Toomey, R-Pa.
Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., had said he would oppose the declaration but reversed course on the Senate floor, saying that he was “sympathetic” to Trump’s push to deal with the crisis at the border.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., before the vote, said he “takes his hat off” to Republicans voting with Democrats, while accusing Trump of “going around Congress” with the declaration.
“This is a momentous day,” he said, declaring that the balance of power was shifting back toward Congress.
It is all pointless political theater in any case, as the measure heads next to Trump’s desk, having previously passed the House. However, Trump plans to veto, and it’s unlikely the House and Senate could muster the required two-thirds majority to override his first use of his veto powers.
All those Rinos should not be re-elected and go straight to hell, I live near the border with Mexico and on Jan 20th an illegal trying to get away from ICE and Border Patrol tore down over 50 feet of my fence and now I am faced with a $425 bill to repair the fence that Mexican tore down. There may not be a crisis where those Rinoslive but there sure as hell is one in the border States.
I’d like to take Schumer’s gesture with his hat… and give him a gift right where the sun doesn’t shine with his own hat! Schumer an Pelosi are disgusting, true examples of not having term limits! The Republicans that jumped ship should go home and let someone who wants to do the job take over. They are not only weak morally, but don’t seem to care about the country and real problems. Obama used Presidential Emergency Power 13 times in 8 years, so saying its a legal issues that could set a precedent for future Presidents is all crap! The Border Crisis is a huge tax payer problem and it’s putting our country at risk in many ways! Illegal means just that, thank President Trump for not backing down on this issue!
Build the wall!!!
These RINOS will be voted out next election by the true Americans who love this country.
There is NO emergency at the border. Illegal immigration from mexico has steadily dropped since 2000. Siding with trump on this is siding against the constitution.
It’s a sad day when Congress cannot see the damage the present immigration laws are causing. I believe the ones who objected got money under the table. When I moved to this county in 1961 south of the border people were 15% of the population. Now today they represent 45%. One can only read the jail report and see the problems the like of laws are causing. This country someday will go into a big shake. I also believe that the teachers in our present time are not teaching the history of this Nation as they should.
sine die
What DNC does is always about what they want, and most is corrupt and illegal, but GOP people like Romney and all Republicans that voted opposed to border wall are as bad as Pelosi and do not care about the safety of U S Citizens as Romney and other GOP party supported Hillary in 2016 elections just because they did not want President Trump to win, SORRY. But how can they not want this wall built when illegals and immigrants are coming through open borders killing our people, bringing in drugs and are sex slaves while DNC finances millions with tax payers money with Abortion (Murder) and will not fund money to keep our own USA Citizens be safer, bet Romney and other GOP has walls and weapons.
I won’t be be voting a straight Republican ticket this next time!
Obama went around congress multiple times putting money in wrong hands like the Mideast with weapons and urannium to Iran and lied to Congress about $400 million for captured troops and lies with Clinton about Benghazi strip, both laughing flying back knowing troops would be killed, yes Romney that is what you stand for, Traitor.
Wish Congress would do it’s JOB!
BUILD THAT WALL!!
build the wall and replace the Rhinos next election, all of them!
A presentation should be prepared that would offer the basis for the rationale, if any, for the construction of barriers on our southern border for the purpose of protecting our nation’s sovereignty by preventing or mitigating illegal border crossings.
That presentation should include:
1. Videos of major Republicans and Democrats showing that they have advocated for this concept as being a critical element for the protection of this nation’s sovereignty.
2. Testimonies from experts offering empirical evidence for the necessity, viability, and functionality of this concept.
3. The fact that our Legislative and Executive Branches have as their greatest responsibility the protection of the sovereignty of this nation.
4. The obvious conclusion appears to be that any Senator or Representative who denies the necessity of the construction of barriers on our southern border appears to be in violation of his or her Oath of Office.

Under Article III, Section 3, of the Constitution, any person who levies war against the United States or adheres to its enemies by giving them Aid and Comfort has committed treason within the meaning of the Constitution.
Republican representatives who did not support the President on building the wall are traidors to the American people. There has been enough lives lost, women raped, killed, and sex traded, criminals and drugs crossing the border, and so much more. The Amerian people are loosing our country, our rights, and financial futures. What a hideous legacy we are leaving to our grandchildren to inherit. Representatives Look beyond your political biases, your next election, and skewed reasons for voting against the wall bill and do the right thing for Ameria. I plead with you to keep America SAFE!
