Despite President Joe Biden’s efforts to undo many of Trump’s initiatives, the Space Force looks to be here for good. even with the new administration’s push to limit the country’s defense budget.
Even in the final moments of his presidency, Donald Trump touted the new military branch as a creation for the ages.
Unlike many of the orders and laws repealed in the past week, Space Force has bipartisan support in congress. Many members believe our increasing reliance on space, especially regarding our satellite use, is a vulnerability that is best addressed by a military branch.
With both China and Russia developing capabilities that threaten U.S. satellites, along with recent tensions, support for extraterrestrial security has never been greater.
“They’re building capabilities to use space against us. We have to be able to respond to that,” Gen. John Hyten, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the National Security Space Association
At this point, President Biden has not yet publicly commented on the new branch, defense secretary Loyd Austin has gone on record stressing the strategic importance of space.
Founded in December 2019, Space Force is the first new military service since 1947, when the Air Force was established. Though smaller than the other branches, S.F. has its own official flag, logo, seal and doctrine. In the last month, after a lengthy debate, it was decided that members of the new branch would be known as guardians.
General John W. “Jay” Raymond, the leader of S.F., is planning to expand the ranks from 2,400 to 6,400 by the end of 2021, bolstering a stronger effort to take on the threats over our heads.
It should be noted, Biden has a moon rock prominently displayed in his Oval Office, which many take as an interest in space exploration.
With Elon Musk breaking the record for satellites put in orbit by a single rocket earlier this week, there is little reason to believe a secure space won’t be of vital importance to us in the present and future. Our security and way of life seem to be increasingly linked with that which is above our heads – in more ways than one.
It is apparent that President Biden has acted, to this point, way beyond what his authority to issue Executive Orders, should, in truth ordain his to do. The consequence being the danger of dictatorial rule he so fervently promised NOT in which to engage. Driven by the voice of others, it seems, he is out to erase what President Trump accomplished. Since when is it that any American President and group of leaders in any branch of government have been perfectly wrong, or for that matter, perfectly right about everything they have brought into being. EGO seems to be the driving force in Washington adjacent to POWER that fears that, if ever viewed as “wrong” or of need to “apologize” will result in loss of the ability to carry forward good ideas and have then accepted on merit as good. STOP IT, Washington! To close…the Space Force is a good idea and should be embraced and enhanced as good for this country regardless of who’s idea it was!
It’s definitely the new frontier that the US has to keep ahead of China and Russia to keep us safe and the world leader.
